Gardening 101: A Beginner’s Guide to Growing Your Own Crops in Palia

Are you ready to get your hands dirty and start growing your own crops in Palia? Look no further! In this article, we’ll take you through the basics of gardening, from getting started to leveling up your skills quickly.

Getting Started

To begin your gardening journey, you’ll need to complete the “Welcome to Palia” series of tutorial quests. This will unlock another quest series called “Learning the Ropes,” where you’ll learn the basics of gardening from Badruu, a friendly farmer in Kilima Valley. As a reward, Badruu will gift you the Makeshift Watering Can and the Makeshift Hoe.

Where to Get More Soil Plots

You’ll get your very first Soil Plots from Badruu for free! Talk to Badruu once you have started the “Learning the Ropes” quest near the start of the game to get a tutorial on Gardening and secure your first two Soil Plots.

Where to Get Seeds

Seeds can primarily be purchased from Zeki’s General Store, located in the heart of Kilima Village. Alternatively, you can sometimes harvest a Seed as a bonus when harvesting grown crops.

How to Get Fertilizer

On top of the effect bonuses that some crops provide, Fertilizer can be placed on top of planted crops to grant additional bonuses! Some types of Fertilizer can be bought from either Zeki’s General Store or Badruu’s Gardening Guild Store.

Crops

There are several different types of Crops currently available in Palia’s open beta:

  • Carrot
  • Onion
  • Tomato
  • Cotton
  • Potato
  • Wheat
  • Rice
  • Blueberry
  • Apple

Each crop has its own unique effect bonus. In Palia, a crop’s effect bonus grants a buff to other nearby crops located above, below, and to either side of it.

How to Get Blueberries and Apples

Blueberries and Apples are late-game crops that can only be obtained after reaching Gardening Level 10. After reaching Gardening Level 10, you will unlock the ability to purchase Blueberry Bush and Apple Tree Seeds from Badruu’s Gardening Guild Store.

How to Level Up Gardening Quickly

The real money to be made from Gardening comes from harvesting Blueberries and Apples, two late-game crops in Palia that can not only be harvested multiple times in a row, but each harvest rewards multiple crops in each go. However, you have quite a bit of leveling to do before you can get those seeds.

Your Gardening skill only increases every time you harvest a grown crop. Hoeing, planting, watering, and weeding does nothing to increase your Gardening skill. The quickest way to level up your Gardening skill is to plant crops with fast turn-around.
