Prickles Hedgehog Hospital Fundraiser
Sally Mutton’s recent open garden event for Prickles in a Pickle’s new hedgehog hospital was a resounding success, raising over £450 for the charity. The event, held on a sunny Saturday in July, welcomed visitors to explore Sally’s beautiful garden while enjoying refreshments in support of the hedgehog rescue cause.
Prickles in a Pickle, situated in South Devon, plays a crucial role in safeguarding hedgehogs, admitting over 1200 of these spiky creatures annually. The charity’s efforts range from protecting hedgehogs in distress to rehabilitating the injured and unwell.
Reflecting on the event, Sally expressed her gratitude, stating, “We estimate that around 50 to 75 people attended. The weather was perfect throughout the day, blessing us with a wonderful turnout.”
One of the primary goals of the charity is to raise awareness about hedgehogs and educate the public on fostering wildlife in their gardens and local environments.
Nick Shepherd, a visitor to the open garden, shared his experience, saying, “Exploring Sally Mutton’s Garden at Start Bay Park was a delight. The garden was opened to raise funds for Prickles in a Pickle’s new hospital construction.”
Attendees were also treated to a special appearance by Lydia Barnard, a human representative of Prickle in a Pickle from the charity.
Sally’s hope is that her garden serves as an inspiration for environmental consciousness and innovative recycling practices. Nick praised the garden, noting its abundance of vegetables and flowers, all while emphasizing its commitment to sustainability and wildlife preservation.
A spokesperson for Prickles in a Pickle highlighted the urgent need for a purpose-built hospital, as the charity has outgrown its current premises. Run entirely by volunteers, every donation is crucial for the construction of this essential facility.
